PHP THERAPIST (MA/MSW) - Full time

Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY:  The PHP Therapist provides direct patient care under the supervision of the Clinical Program Manager. Primary responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention and activities of daily living.  Conducts daily contraband searches. Conducts social history assessment interviews, produces a social work assessment or assessment update from the interview data.  Documents in the medical record; psychosocial histories, discharge planning, patient contacts, treatment updates, etc. The Program Therapist is additionally responsible for the creation of individual and master treatment plans, implementation of programs, individual and family counseling sessions, and running group sessions. Creation and revision of group topics and materials.  Documentation in the form of tracking sheets, progress notes, and group session notes for each patient and filing of same.  Initiates and follows through on discharge/aftercare planning as assigned and provides support networks (DCFS, SASS, School Social Workers and teachers with updates on patient progress.  Identifies appropriate referral for post discharge services and establishes rapport with same.  Relative to the assessment, treatment planning and continuum of care processes, understands and considers basic growth and development milestones with interventions specific to the age and population served.  Follow all policies/procedures related to release of information and Confidentiality.  Attends multi-disciplinary treatment staffing as assigned.


Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. Staff must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including children, pre-adolescents, adolescents and adult patients.

Education: Masters Degree in Psychology or related field.

Experience:  1-3 years experience working with a psychiatric patient population preferred.

Licensure/Certification: LSW or LPC preferred. BLS Provider certification through the American Heart Association and CPI certification required upon completion of orientation.  BLS Provider and CPI certifications must remain active throughout employment.

Knowledge:  Must possess knowledge of psychiatric group processes, therapeutic relationships processes, age specific growth and development, limit setting and behavior management, CPI leadership skills, diagnostic understanding behind behaviors often exhibited within milieu and CPR training.
